The 2022 Oscar nominations were announced Tuesday morning. Denzel Washington scored a best Actor nomination for his performance in The Tragedy of Macbeth. This is his 10th overall Oscar nod and extends his record as the most-nominated Black actor in Academy Awards history.
Nicole Kidman was nominated for her role in Being the Ricardos. “Lucille Ball is one of Hollywood’s greatest icons. She was ahead of her time. From actress to producer to studio head, mother and wife, she’s an extraordinary inspiration! Thank you Lucille Ball,” said in a statement about her nomination.
King Richard earned six nominations including one for Will Smith’s performance as Serena and Venus Williams’ father and coach. Beyoncé scored her first Oscar nomination. The Grammy winner is being honored for her song “Be Alive” from the film. “Our film is really nominated for an OSCAR!!!!!!! This is CRAZY!!!!!!! From Compton to Wimbledon to Academy awards. Everyone can dream,” Serena wrote in response to the nominations.
Kristen Stewart earned a nomination for Best Actress in a Leading Role. She was honored for her portrayal of Princess Diana in Spencer. This is Stewart’s first nomination.
