Kevin Spacey responded to Anthony Rapp’s claims that Spacey made sexual advances towards him when he was only 14-years-old and a child actor on Broadway. Rapp told Buzzfeed that Spacey picked him up, put him on his bed and “was trying to get with me sexually.” He said that Spacey laid “down on top of me” but he managed to “squirm” away. Spacey responded on social media. Tweeting, “I honestly do not remember the encounter, it would have been over 30 years ago. But if I did behave then as he describes, I owe him the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior, and I am sorry for the feelings he describes having carried with him all these years.
The House of Cards star then addressed the rumors about his sexual orientation. “As those closest to me know , in my life I have had relationships with both men and women. I have loved and had romantic relationships with men throughout my life, and I choose now to live as a gay man,” Space wrote on Sunday.
On Monday Zachary Qunito publicly denounced Spacey’s statement. “It is deeply sad and troubling that this is how Kevin Spacey has chosen to come out,” he tweeted. He want on to blast Spacey for coming out to “deflect” from the sexual misconduct allegations from actor Anthony Rapp. Rose McGowan responded to the news with, “Gay=Gay Predator = Predator.” Billy Eichner used humor. “Kevin Spacey has just invented something that has never existed before; a bad time to come out.” Eichner added “But honestly I hesitate to make jokes because the Spacey statement is truly disgusting, irresponsible and dangerous.”
