Billy Porter revealed that he is HIV-positive. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter the Pose star opened up about keeping it a secret for 14 years. Porter explained that he was diagnosed in 2007 after finding out he had Type II diabetes and filing for bankruptcy. “The shame of that time compounded with the shame that had already (accumulated) in my life silenced me, and I have lived with that shame in silence for 14 years,” he told the publication. “HIV-positive, where I come from, growing up in the Pentecostal church with a very religious family, is God’s punishment.” Porter said he is in good health  and he is now ready to tell the world, “This is what HIV-positive looks like now.”
