Matt Damon hosted a masterclass at the Cannes Film Festival. He is at the festival for the premiere of his new film Stillwater. Damon shared during the class that he turned down the lead in Avatar. “I was offered a little movie called Avatar, James Cameron offered me 10% of it,” he recalled. “I will go down in history… you will never meet an actor who turned down more money.” Damon explained that he was shooting the Jason Bourne movies and made the “moral” decision not to the leave that franchise in the lurch.
Paul Verhoeven, the director of Basic Instinct responded to Sharon Stone’s claim that she was misled about how the movie’s infamous leg-crossing scene would be filmed. Stone wrote in her memoir that she had been assured that her crotch would not be visible on screen. “My memory is radically different from Sharon’s memory,” Verhoeven told Variety. “Her version is impossible,” he said . “She knew exactly what we were doing. I told her it was based on a story of a woman that I knew when I was a student who did the crossing of her legs without panties regularly at parties.”
