Aston Martin wants to ease your commute with this luxury aircraft concept
British luxury sports car company Aston Martin just unveiled an aircraft with vertical take-off and landing capabilities for “personal air mobility.” The Volante Vision Concept is a “flying autonomous hybrid-electric vehicle for urban and inter-city air travel,” according to the press release, which aims to provide “fast, efficient and congestion free luxurious travel.” As Aston Martin President and CEO Dr. Andy Palmer noted, “With the population in urban areas continuing to grow, congestion in towns and cities will become increasingly demanding,” he said. “The Volante Vision Concept will enable us to travel further with our hourly commute, meaning we are able to live further away from where we work.”
J.Lo’s boots were the star of her MTV announcement
MTV’s Sway Calloway just revealed that Jennifer Lopez will be honored with the 2018 VMA Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award on August 20. Though that announcement would have been news enough, buckle up, because there was a twist. In her interview with Sway about the upcoming award, J.Lo’s footwear fashion choices threatened to overshadow the message. Because she wore tiny denim jeans. With little belts. On her feet. We have so many questions. Like, are the pockets functional? You can see the boots, apparently from the Versace “Resort 2019” collection, in this interview clip:
Soar on eagle wings over the city of Vienna
The Vienna Tourist Board just posted an incredible 360° VR-friendly video of the city, as seen from a camera perched on an eagle’s shoulders. It’s an incredible view, made more impressive by the animal component. “The project was a world first – never before had eagles wearing 360° cameras been used to capture footage of a major city,” explained Norbert Kettner, CEO of the Vienna Tourist Board. As animal-lovers, we also enjoyed looking down over the birds’ wings and catching a glimpse of them maneuvering in the open sky. Here’s a really cool look behind the scenes at what it took to capture the 360° footage, followed by the final VR-ready version:
The project was a Red Bull Media House production commissioned by the Vienna Tourist Board.
You can actually draw with these colored pencil fingernails
Russian nail art studio Nail Sunny posted a functional colored pencil fingernail design to their popular Instagram account last week, and even outlets like Teen Vogue and Cosmo are covering the wildly unique idea. The nail studio also posted a behind-the-scenes look at how the design was executed, and it’s worth the watch to see how the artist expertly crafts the nails so they’re actually able to draw on paper:

Disney partnered with TOMS to release comfy princess shoes
Disney’s newest shoe collaboration is with TOMS, the company known for comfortable alpargata canvas shoes. “A group of young women worked behind the scenes on Walt Disney’s films, adding the detail to these timeless stories,” the TOMS website says of the collab. “They were the ones who added the magic to these timeless stories, frame by frame, sparkle by sparkle. Inspired by these female artists, TOMS went into the Walt Disney Archives and created a unique collection featuring original character sketches from classic Disney films.”
The Disney x TOMS collaboration, featuring both shoes and eyewear for women and kids, has already released two capsules this summer, for Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. The third and final capsule will be for Snow White, releasing in August 2018.

This casting for the Voice of God in “Good Omens” is divine
Frances McDormand has just been confirmed as the Voice of God in the upcoming Amazon show “Good Omens,” adapted from the book written by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett. And really, can you think of a better casting choice for that role?
Amazon also released an inside look at the 6-part miniseries starring David Tennant as the demon Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angel Aziraphale:
Disney Animation is set to debut its first VR short
Walt Disney Animation Studios is premiering its very first virtual reality short film next month. Titled “Cycles,” the VR short “is an experimental film that centers around the true meaning of creating a home and the life it holds inside its walls.” The short is directed by Disney Animation’s Jeff Gipson, who was a lighting artist on films like “Moana” and “Zootopia.” “We wanted to create a story in this single place and be able to have the viewer witness life happening around them,” Gipson said in a statement provided to Variety. “It is an emotionally driven film, expressing the real ups and downs, the happy and sad moments in life.” The film will be a part of the Immersive Pavilion at SIGGRAPH 2018 in Vancouver, August 12–16.

Wes Anderson’s first museum exhibit
Director Wes Anderson and his partner Juman Malouf will curate their first museum exhibition titled “The Spitzmaus Mummy in a Coffin and Other Treasures from the Kunsthistorisches Museum.” As the website for the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna notes, “The invitation was a simple but daunting one: to comb through more than four million objects, both on public display and tucked away in the museum’s labyrinthine storage rooms, and to select their favourites.” Given Wes Anderson’s eye for style and symmetry in movies from “The Royal Tenenbaums” (2001) to “Isle of Dogs” (2018), we expect that this exhibit should be both beautiful and unique. Check it out starting November 6.
